I am the worst blog slacker lately. I am also the worst photo developing slacker. Sadly, it is faster for me to shop for a digital camera, have Darryl tell me that my choice is absurd, then both shop for a digital camera, choose one, find a great deal, order it, wait for it to be shipped ground, read the manual and learn how to use it, and take new destruction photos than it is for me to drive to Walgreens and bring my film. Even worse, I was actually at Walgreens once this week, and forgot my film. I'm a little retarded. But now for the good news! I got Karen's prize mailed out (because Darryl went and bought stamps; don't get your hopes up that I'm turning a new leaf or anything). But hey, I still stamped it and stuck it in the mailbox, so that's something. AND! I did retake the photos of the madness that we currently live in. Living here right now is a lot like camping. It smells a little, it's hard to sleep, and you have to walk like 8 miles to the bathroom. The bad part is that you can never go home and get a good nights sleep, and use the bathroom down the hall. The current estimate is $24,000 for repairs, which will likely not be completed until spring. So, we're in for months of fun yet to come. :) This first photo is our bathroom floor. On top of this mess, there used to be a subfloor and tile. They took those out to get everything dry, and haven't been back since. Darryl started cleaning the mess they left and look what he found! Hardwood floors that don't look toooooo bad... Or, maybe we're just getting used to things looking so horrid they look good by comparison. Either way, it was a bright spot. This photo is of the bathroom wall, near the floor. All around the room, the clean-up/demolition men took tile off so that the walls could dry. It looks absolutely disgusting. Right under our bathroom is Darryl's office. Now, feng shui will tell you that that's not such a good idea. But bad karma aside, it sucks when something like this happens because lots of computer equipment and little things like bills get waterlogged or destroyed. This picture is of the office wall where Darryl's desk used to be. There was a desktop bolted to the wall there, and some shelving that used to go up to the ceiling. Oh, and there were walls. If you were to turn to the right a little in the office, you would see this corner, where the laundry chute is. Look at the chimney! It's out in the open! All naked and such! And last, but not least, our dining room ceiling. We took special care to preserve the ceiling that was here. It was the last bit of salvageable 1920's textured plaster in the house. So, yeah, that's gone. If you look really closely, you can still see bits of lathe that the demo guys didn't really remove. And that white stripe is where our crown molding used to be. The light is a little bad, and that's because Darryl had to wire up a temporary dangling bulb so that there would be any light at all. I have about a million pictures like this, and man, I could just go on all day! But, I'll spare you the misery. ;) Tomorrow, a post about something more fun. Like, clambakes!
