Here are some good pictures of the park downtown. Emily / Uncle Jim will hopefully remember visiting the serpentine wall and Sawyer Point park downtown. Here's a picture of what it normally looks like. This pic was probably taken in mid-summer with the river at it's lowest level (looks like about 20-25 feet) Each one of those steps in the wall is at least 2.5-3 feet. This is a photo that the local newspaper published depicting the current river level. All that's visible is the very top edge of the wall! I'm not sure at what level the river gets shutdown at. You can see the old paddleboat is right up around bridge level. I think that all barge traffic stops somewhere in the upper 50' range. The news had a story about the new stadiums and their flood protection. They showed workers installing giant flood gates on the outside of the building. Evidentally they're safe up to about 70 or 80 feet of water -- which statistically only happens once every 200 years or so (hopefully not this year).
