Ok, here’s the post with the actual news. Progress is being made in our bathroom! For those of you following our ongoing water-damage-repair saga, you will understand why this is so EXCITING! 5 months after the damage occurred, real demolition and repair is taking place, to wit: This is where our tub used to be. You can see the shower head still there, and the fixtures and plumbing exposed in the wall. Also, there’s a huge hole in the floor. The best part is definitely the wall paint. There used to be yellow and orange floral contact paper on the yellow portion. Can you imagine what our bathroom looked like when it was all that yellow color? Or the pink underneath that? We actually found another pink color in the layers, but it doesn’t show up well in photos. It’s like a vampire that way. I’m sure it’s for the best.
Want to see something really scary? This is the major floor joist under our tub. See how they cut most of it away to make room for the cleanout? That effectively reduced the carrying ability of that beam to the 1/2" or so they left. So, the weight of tub + water + people was all on that little piece. Why didn’t we fall through the floor? Sheer miracle.
This is where our tub used to be. Today, Darryl and five of his friends got the old one out, and hoisted the new one upstairs. No word yet on when it might get installed.
This is the scariest one to me. You can see through the hole right down into the office. Maybe it’s hard to tell what you’re looking at if you haven’t seen it in real life, though!
Anyway, that’s all that’s been done so far. I’ll keep you updated!
