Where has everyone been lately?! I actually do have news, but I’m going to wait until I get the photo illustrations organized before I post them ;)
Does anyone else use Picasa photo software? If you do, I recommend that you go to the google main page and download the update. There’s tons of new features that I’ve found really useful, and it’s still free! Nice!
Anyway, in place of news, I’m going to preview the new play I’ve written. So, without further ado, I present:
"What Passed For Excitement in 1981"
by Emily "Still a Haboustak in Spirit" Seguin
Scene: Grandma’s basement, some kind of holiday party, but specifically NOT Halloween, probably Christmas, for all I know.
Shane: Hey, know what would be fun?
Rest of cousins: What?
Shane: Let’s make a haunted house to scare the grownups!
Mike: Yeah!
Emily: Where?
Chris: The dark half of the basement would be good.
Mike: Yeah!
Emily: That’s a bad idea.
Karen: No, it’s not!
Chris: Why?
Emily: That half is scary.
Shane: Um. It’s supposed to be scary.
Emily: …
Chris: We’ll turn the lights on until we’re done.
Emily: The dark half is a great idea!
Karen: Now, what’s scary?
Shane: Scary noise!
Mike: We should go "oooo! Boooo!" at them in the dark!
Emily: Yeah, that’s scary!
Karen: That’s lame.
Shane: I have this tape player that can play 2 tapes at the same time, and I’m pretty sure that scares MY parents.
Mike & Emily: Wow. [stunned silence]
Chris: Let’s find good hiding places to jump out of.
Mike: Yeah!
Chris, Karen & Shane: [find good places]
Emily: [finds a place that is NOT DARK.]
Mike: [sits in the middle of the floor]
Chris: [shakes head sadly.]
Karen: Come on, Emily, let’s go get the grownups!
Emily: Ok!
*Upstairs*
Moms/Aunts: Ooooo, a haunted house! Ok!
Dads/Uncles: Maybe later, kids.
*back in the basement*
[Aunts/moms wait at the entrance while we hide and cue music. Shouts of OK! are heard. Aunts/moms begin walking past furnace.]
Chris, Karen and Shane: [pop out of good hiding spots] BOO!
Aunts Joyce and Jan: oooo! So scary! We’re so scared! [etc.]
Aunt Joan: Aaaah!
Aunt Val: [laughing]
Mike: [from middle of floor] oooooo! Booooo!
Emily: [crying] I’m scared!
The End!
They say the best writing is about things you know. Therefore, I think my play is AWESOME.
PS - Dads/uncles? I think the haunted house is ready any time you are.
