You’ll all be glad to note that the people working in my house are now going to take a few days off and work on other jobs, so you won’t have to look at more pictures of my bathroom and various framing. Anyway, today we came home, and they had reframed our dining room ceiling! They had told us they were going to reinforce it with 2 x 6’s just sistered to the existing beams. Only, we found THIS!
They just put 2 x 4’s under the beams… It’s weird. We’re definitely not happy. How many different ceiling heights are we supposed to accept? Also, the old crown moulding (that we worked so hard to save) somewhat warped to the old ceiling. That wasn’t a problem, but this new ceiling doesn’t conform to the marks left by the old. They may have to come back and tear this all out. They also finished the ceiling reframing in the office, and the drain for the tub, and the pipe going to the stack for air. I’m still sad that our ceiling is this low, but I guess it’s worth the sacrifice of space for a new tub and tile.
And they installed the tub!! The plumbing is all in place, but the wall still needs to be replaced, and the tile installed. So there are no fixtures yet, and no running water, but now I have hope! And for the first time EVER, there are pipes in the wall going up to where the shower will be.
I also realized that I never showed a picture of the new shower stall we had installed in the basement so we can shower while this is going on. There’s a reason they put them in small rooms, incidentally. It is freezing in the basement, and the steam cannot warm up that big space! This shower is tiny and so cheap, but effective, and thank god, temporary!
That’s it for now!
