Compulsion

Somehow, I now feel this overwhelming compulsion to make a spread for every holiday which must include a completely made-from-scratch cake. For Easter, this meant staying up all night to create one of Marthas' recipes. I actually put whole carrots through a mandoline, candied the slices, and used them as garnish on a homemade carrot cake (I even grated my own ginger root to add some extra flavor to the cream cheese frosting). I really don't know what's wrong with me. I can't help myself. Maybe Grandma Koenig felt the same way whenever any of us came over???? Posted by Picasa

I don't know about Grandma Koenig, but I know for sure I put pressure on myself to do stuff like this!!

Usually, it goes unappreciated. Like last Thanksgiving, when I made goat-cheese puffs for an appetizer (along with the whole meal!) for Darryl's family, and no one ate any!

Or, last Christmas, when I made smoked salmon wraps, and mini crab cake appetizers and brought them all home with me.

Your cakes are lovely! I'm sure they get eaten quickly!
