Toddler vs. Crib

So I just finished an excrutiating hour. Scott is in Germany so I try to get a lot done when he travels since it's easier having only 1 kid in the house. Anyway, Andrew has been plagued with constant winter illnesses (ear infections, colds, etc) due to daycare germs. We had him in his own room, in a crib, from the day he came home. We are not "bed sharing" people. Well, when he's sick, we would innocently let him come to bed with us since he was sick and miserable and needed attention in the night. Problem was he has been constantly sick, and now refuses to even go in his room much less the crib. We step foot in there and he screams bloody murder. So we're stuck with him in our bed, and the doctor said not to try for the crib again until he is better. He's finally better, so it's time. I've tried the Ferber method (you let them cry for 5 minutes then reassure them, then 10 minutes, etc), which worked great until he could stand. Since he can stand, the kid is so stubborn he REFUSES to sit down and go to sleep. Scott continually reminds me where Andrew inherited his stubborn tendancies. So I broke down with the Supernanny method I saw on the show. You basically just sit next to the crib and don't make eye contact. It went on for an hour to no avail. It was terrible. Poor kid is just reaching for me and screaming. It was so sad and pathetic. So finally after an hour I forced him to lay down (because he was clearly exhausted) and just stuck my hand through the slats to pat his back. Then he was knocked out. So, it kind of worked, I guess. It was really awful. I can't even describe it. Hopefully by the time Scott gets back next week he'll be back in the crib, but I don't know how many more nights I can take this. He has got to be the most stubborn kid ever. I'm going to watch the end of the Iron Chef America Kobe Beef challenge and go to bed. Have a good night! Please don't let Andrew wake up in an hour ... I don't know what I'll do if he does.

Aww, I've seen the moms on that show have to go through that process, and it seems AWFUL. I'm so impressed that you went through that without a NANNY, and without any other support! You should be really proud of yourself. :)
Well, last night it only took 10 minutes and there was much less screaming. So, the Supernanny technique is showing some progress. ;-)
