First of all, I LOVE the new title on the blog. Second, I feel woefully inadequate after viewing Emily's pictures of the fix up. Uh, knocking out walls and ceilings? Scott and I are painting and caulking and replacing fixtures, and we feel overwhelmed. Plus cleaning out. Our place was just too small and I'm not exactly one for organization. I'm working on it, though.
I think they started laying the foundation for our new house in February. We contracted at the end of November (to lock in before construction costs went up yet again), which turned out to be a good thing. Our contract stated an anticipated close of May 31. However, our town doesn't issue permits the month of December. Therefore, we were delayed about 6 weeks. So, I think it will be done somewhere in June, or maybe July 1. The outside went up quick, but now it's wiring and plumbing and going much more slowly. They told us it would probably be done about 60 days after sheetrock goes in (which has not happened yet).
Emily - you already have the place rented? Scott is freaking out about putting our current home up for rent ASAP. But I've told him to chill, and we don't even know when we'll close. I figure renters will need the place ASAP. So, I thought we'd put it up after sheetrock goes into the new house (60 days before close). He's very worried about having two mortgages (as am I). Unfortunately, being spring, a few houses in the neighborhood are up for rent, so the competition is stiff. It's funny, we've been here 5 years and only seen about 2 houses for rent, and they went quickly. Renters seem to stay here forever. Now that we're going to put our house up for rent, there are THREE "For Rent" signs in the neighborhood for the past few weeks. Kind of gives us a sinking feeling...
Regarding Andrew's bloody lip on the playground, it did look awful. I think that was his first major bloodshed. I just went for a quick trip and didn't have my diaper bag, or anything to wipe it with. So I saw two mothers at a picnic table and got something from them, and asked, "do you think I should take him to the doctor or anything?" and they laughed and said, "Uh, no, he's fine". I just said, "Sorry, rookie mistake". He was fine, of course. He didn't even notice if after about 30 seconds.

Thanks for noticing the new header. You know, it's a little change, but every little change takes me FOREVER! ;)

June and July will be here before you know it, I'm sure, although I bet it seems like a long way off right now while you have so much to do, and are tight on space, too! In answer to the tenant question, the house we bought is a double. So, we have a tenant upstairs, but no one is downstairs, and that's where all the work (primarily) is happening. Actually, because of all the violations on the house, we don't have an occupancy permit, but the inspector has been really cool, and is letting us get things done as we can, and is not making the tenant move out until the permit is approved. May is only 3 weeks away, and meeting that deadline is looking less and less realistic. We may end up paying 2 mortgages for a month or more. Yikes!! Also, I'm sure you were more calm about Andrew being injured than I would have been! I'm impressed! I'm glad it wasn't a big injury, though. ;) |
