Okay, I'll play.

Good ol' Wikiwikipedia. 215 BC - A temple is built on the Capitoline Hill dedicated to Venus Erycina to commemorate the Roman defeat at Lake Trasimene. (Gotta love this attitude. Decimate our combined army? Yeah, well we're lovers, not fighters anyway.) 1014 - Battle of Clontarf: Brian Boru defeats Viking invaders, but is killed in battle. (Yay for Irish vs. Viking battles! Don't know who to root for though! I love exclamation marks!) 1867 - William Lincoln patents the zoetrope, a machine which shows animated pictures by mounting a strip of drawings in a wheel. (Yay for crude movies!) 1956 - Elvis Presley makes his first appearance in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Yay Elvis! Yay Vegas!) 1985 - Coca Cola changes its 99 year old formula to the sweeter "New Coke". (It is doomed to failure and the company is later forced to reintroduce the original). (Doh!) Births: 1564 - William Shakespeare, English poet and playwright [uncertain] (d. 1616) 1598 - Maarten Tromp, Dutch admiral (d. 1653) (No one else has heard of him, but he was pretty chill. But he helped fight against the hated English Protestants.) 1928 - Shirley Temple, American actress and politician (Politician? Do what now?) 1943 - Hervé Villechaize, French actor (d. 1993) (Tattoo! Yes!) 1954 - Michael Moore, American filmmaker (Doh. I'd've written, "propagandist," personally.) Deaths: 303 - Saint George, Roman soldier and Christian martyr 1616 - William Shakespeare, English writer and actor (b. 1564) (The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away.) 1781 - James Abercrombie, British general (b. 1706) (I bet this dude would totally lose it if we saw what his name is associated with today.) ...and some Holidays: Catalonia - Lover's Day. Men receive a book as a gift from their romantic interest, while women receive roses. The book is in honor of Shakespeare's and Cervantes's death on April 23, 1616. (Heehee! Girls can't read! Don't hit me, it's just jokes.) National Beer Day in Germany (That's it: I win!)
Comments:
Hahaha, good list! The commentary was the best part. :)
