Plumbers. Sheesh. 

Yesterday, the plumber arrived. I walked next door with him in case he had a question, or needed anything. Turns out he did! He had a million questions! And he needed an audience! I shouldn't complain. The guy is a third generation plumber who's been in plumbing for 40 years now. Bu consequently, dude has ONE MILLION stories. And they're not funny. But he laughs, so I laugh. But do you know how long 8 hours is when you're doing your fake laugh again and again? Ugh. Eventually, I went back to our house, where a lovely novel was waiting. Only, the plumber kept knocking on the door. Could I flush the upstairs toilet? Could I run water in the sink? Could I look over the job to explain to Darryl what he did? Grrr. The guy is AWESOME, though. He replaced the stack yesterday, put in a cleanout, replaced the toilet drain, and adjusted it from a 10" to a 12" offset so it's standard now and we don't need a special toilet. AND he found a way to fit all the plumbing in the wall so we can put in a standard tub. He said that the tub that was in there was made for a trailer. HA. That does not surprise me. After lunch yesterday, he stopped at home and picked up some pictures to show me. I saw his wife and his house and all the stuff he bought at flea markets and refinished. I'll conclude with a story. "So, I'm always findin' these great old tables. And I bring them home, you see, and I tell the missus I'm going to just fix it up and put it on the lawn, see? To sell it. [laugter] Well, the missus, she agrees, so's that's ok. [laughter] Then I finish the table, and the missus, she LOVES IT. [no, seriously now, LAUGHTER.] She won't let me sell it! [laughter] You can't believe how many goddamned tables I got in my living room. [laughter] WAIT. Let me show you a picture. HAHAHAHAHA." He's coming back any minute now.
